A late summer stay at The Pig hotel – near Bath

November 1, 2016 Pig Hotel Bath

If I need a cozy foodie stay away in England that is realistically priced, I think about one of The Pig hotels.  Tucked away in The Mendip Hills seven miles from glorious Bath, this Pig is a perfectly restored pale golden Georgian house. Surrounded by a magnificent kitchen garden, smoke house, chicken pen and wildflower meadow with a neighbouring 80 strong herd of deer, the Pig team create a 'no fuss' warmth that is utterly charming.  The Pig Hotels present themselves as 'restaurants with rooms' and the food is truly at the heart of the experience.   The restaurant is a conservatory which is decorated to resemble a chic garden shed with 90% of it's ingredients sourced locally. Little pots with beautifully labelled delicate smelling herbs sit proudly on every table and the menu is imaginative and oh so fresh..  I particularly loved the 'literally picked this morning' salad and the 'ruby red beef'.

I stayed in the Big Comfy Lux rooms with huge soft beds and beautiful bathrooms.  The generous larder in the room was a lovely surprise and all the smelly products in the bathrooms too.  Perfect!  I had a look at the Apple Store and The Hide rooms based in the kitchen garden arranged over two floors with a view of the deer and peace away from the house.   That's a next time stay for something special.  There is so much to do in the area with Bath, Wells, Bristol and Cheddar Gorge in driving distance but I must admit it's hard to drag yourself away.  Comfy clothing and a good book and The Pig will provide everything else.........a deeply relaxing stay!   It's a popular place so early booking is advised.
