Ice skating at The National History Museum in Kensington

January 4, 2017

The introduction of ice skating rinks and European xmas markets have transformed England's wintery experience.  Instead of only dreaming about a trip to an Austrian xmas market or ice skating around an iced over lake in Norway we can now fulfil at least part of that dream here.  In London rinks such as Somerset House, The Natural History Museum (below) and Hampton Court Palace make for an hour or two of brisk exercise followed by a well deserved gluhwein or hot chocolate in an alpine setting and this has been replicated in many towns around the country.  Xmas markets here are also becoming a must to shop and get into the festive spirit.  Bath Xmas market is highly regarded and others are following suit.  Here are Vogue's best.  Thankfully the rinks stay a little while after Xmas.... so we can indulge in that dream a little longer.
